PM Shmyhal meets with IMF Chief Georgieva
Ukraine will get access to $115 billion of long-term support due to the assistance of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the G7 countries.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this following a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings in Washington, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Government portal, Ukrinform reports.
"A year ago, in the IMF office, we agreed on the ways to financially support Ukraine. We were talking about $5 billion in monthly budget support. Over this time, we have not only successfully gone through a difficult financial year, but we now have a large-scale program worth $15.6 billion for the next four years. We are grateful and appreciate this help," Shmyhal said.
The parties discussed the course of reforms’ implementation and further progress towards recovery and development.
The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine needs $14 billion for fast recovery this year. In this context, according to him, further work within the Multi-agency Donor Coordination Platform is vital.
"This platform is one of the best tools for interaction. Thank you for your leadership in its creation. We are sure that the platform will bring us positive results in all areas: financing the budget deficit, restoration, confiscation of frozen Russian assets, which will become the main source for the reconstruction of Ukraine," Shmyhal said.
As reported by Ukrinform, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is currently in the US on an official visit. There, among other things, he called on the United States to take the lead in confiscating Russian assets.
