Ukraine loses 44% of nuclear power generation at heating season’s end - energy ministry
As of the end of the autumn-winter period, due to destruction and occupation of territories by Russia, the Ukrainian power system temporarily lost 44% of nuclear generation, 78% of TPP, 66% of CHPP, 12% of HPP, 75% of wind generation, and more than 20% of solar generation capacity.
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy, Ukrinform saw.
"Starting from October 10, 2022, and over the next six months, the terrorist state carried out 33 massive attacks on energy infrastructure facilities. Nearly 270 hits were recorded. As a result, 24 generation facilities, about half of the substations of our transmission system, and trunk networks were affected," the report says.
The ministry specified that repairs and restoration works art mainline substations operated by Ukrenergo, as well as generating capacities of power plants, are currently ongoing. Energy repair teams are actively restoring the power system and the margin of safety that the system had before Russia’s campaign of massive strikes began.
As reported earlier, according to the estimates released by the World Bank, the damage inflicted on the Ukrainian infrastructure of power, gas, and heating systems, as well as coal mining stands at about $11 billion.
