Over 3.5M ha of grains, pulses sown in Ukraine

In Ukraine, as of the first half of May, farmers have already sown 3.587 million hectares of grains and pulses.

According to Ukrinform, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reported this.

It is noted that Ukraine has already sown 246,600 hectares of spring wheat, 736,700 hectares of spring barley, 131,100 hectares of peas, 141,000 hectares of oats, more than 2.265 million hectares of corn, 8,340 hectares of buckwheat, 10,900 hectares of millet, as well as 46,920 hectares of other grains and pulses.

Last week, Ukrainian farmers sowed over 1.266 million hectares of grains and pulses, with Poltava region leading the way with 179,200 hectares.

As of the first half of May, Ukraine has already planted 2.725 million hectares of sunflowers. Most of this crop was planted in Poltava region (357,100 hectares). Soybean planting is underway in 22 regions of Ukraine, with 748,800 hectares sown. Farmers in Ternopil region sowed 100,100 hectares, the largest area of any region.

Agrarians in 14 regions are sowing sugar beet, with 204,800 hectares already planted. The largest area of this crop was planted in Vinnytsia region (52,000 hectares).

According to the Agrarian Ministry’s forecast, in 2023, the main spring crops will be planted on 5.7 million hectares. It is 206,500 hectares less than last year.
