Gov't, together with EBRD, mulling project to restore Ukraine’s railway system - PM
The Ukrainian government, jointly with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is preparing a EUR 200 million railway recovery project.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this at a Cabinet field meeting held during a working trip to Kharkiv region, Ukrinform reports.
"Together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, we are preparing a railway recovery project. We are making a decision to allocate for Ukrzaliznytsia EUR 200 million from the EBRD. These are funds for the purchase of equipment necessary for the restoration of railway lanes with the EU, improvement of passenger transportation services, and the purchase of additional locomotives," Shmyhal said.
According to the prime minister, the authorities are providing further support to the regions by allocating funds for compensation for the utility services rendered in the process of the accommodation of displaced persons in state-owned and municipal premises. The Cabinet is allocating another UAH 220 million to this end.
Shmyhal added that, within the framework of the United24 platform initiated by President Volodymyr Zelensky, a new area for fundraising will be opened, which is humanitarian demining. It will be officially approved at the level of amendments to the Presidential Decree.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Friday, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal visited the village of Tsyrkuny during a working trip to Kharkiv region, where he saw firsthand the destruction caused by Russian aggression.
