Ukraine, Germany launching new green recovery project
Ukraine and Germany are launching a new project for Ukrainian communities, Renewables for Resilient Ukraine – R2U, which is the first stage of bilateral arrangements on deepening partnership in terms of green restoration.
The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Energy Ministry on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
As part of the project, twenty communities will be selected in order to conduct energy audit of critical infrastructure buildings and further provide them with renewable energy sources. The project period is 18 months, and its cost is about EUR 2 million.
“With this project, we are expanding our cooperation with German partners, focused on strengthening the stability of the Ukrainian energy system through the decentralization of power generating and distributing facilities,” Ukrainian Energy Deputy Minister Yaroslav Demchenkov noted.
In his words, special attention will be given to rural areas, coal mining regions, and those localities that had been most affected by hostilities.
A reminder that, on April 4, 2023, Ukraine and Germany signed a joint Statement of Intent, expanding the areas of the German-Ukrainian energy partnership with a focus on green recovery and rebuilding of Ukraine’s energy sector.
