Ukraine setting up underground oil, gas storages

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the list of underground storage facilities for oil, gas, and other substances and materials.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal spoke of this at a government meeting on Friday, Ukrinform reports.

"Today we approve the list of underground facilities where oil, gas, other substances and materials will be stored. This will allow us to equip and maintain reliable depots unaccessible to the enemy and other threats," Shmyhal said.

According to the government chief, one of the strategic tasks of the Cabinet is the accumulation and efficient preservation of reserves both in wartime and in the longer term.

"Another solution is the transformation of 11 organizations of the State Reserve into state-owned enterprises. This is the first step toward their modernization. Upgraded storage facilities will help Ukraine create strategic reserves for the decades to come," Prime Minister emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Denys Shmyhal announced at the last government meeting that the country plans to accumulate 14.7 billion cubic meters of gas before the start of the heating season.
