IAEA’s Grossi calls on Russians not to turn ZNPP into military base

Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, during a visit to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, urged the invaders not to use the facility as a military base.

The corresponding video was published on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

"Don’t attack the plant, don’t attack from the plant, don’t make the plant a military base, don’t cut the external power supply, et cetera. So these things are things that must be done," said the Director General of the IAEA.

He added that experts of the Agency's permanent mission present at the ZNPP will monitor compliance with these principles and keep the international community informed to prevent a nuclear accident.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on June 15, IAEA Director General visited the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant temporarily seized by Russian troops in order to assess the consequences of the explosion at the Kakhovka HPP dam as regards the safety of the plant.

During his visit to the NPP, he said that it is very important that the water level in the cooling pond at the ZNPP be maintained as it is now. According to him, the NPP may be safe for some time, the plant will work on replenishing water reserves so that its safety functions can continue to work normally.
