Production of grains, oilseeds to increase to 150M t in 10 years - Agrarian Ministry
According to the agro-industrial development strategy for the next ten years, Ukraine's grain and oilseed production is expected to increase to 150 million tonnes.
First deputy minister of agrarian policy and food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky stated this at the presentation of the strategy at Ukraine Recovery Conference in London, Ukrinform reports citing the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
"The strategy for the development of Ukraine's agro-industrial complex envisages full vertical integration with the production of the necessary material and technical resources and means of production. It also envisages an increase in grain and oilseed production to 150 million tonnes in 10 years, as well as an increase in domestic processing and production of livestock and horticultural products. The total investment portfolio amounts to USD 57 billion," he said.
Vysotsky noted that the strategy envisages restoration of irrigation for agricultural land affected by the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant explosion, as well as gradual substitution of imported food products in the domestic market. In addition, the document envisages the development of green energy: full recycling of secondary waste and production of up to 10 billion cubic meters of biomethane.
As Ukrinform reported, the Ukrainian Grain Association predicts that in 2023 Ukraine will harvest 68 million tonnes of grains and oilseeds, which is 5.8 million tonnes less than the 2022 harvest (according to the association's estimates, 73.8 million tonnes were harvested last year).
