Ukrzaliznytsia is in talks on expanding cooperation with Republic of Korea
JSC Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) relies on further fruitful intergovernmental cooperation with the Republic of Korea, which will benefit hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian passengers.
Yevhen Liashchenko, the company’s CEO, made a corresponding statement, Ukrzaliznytsia's Telegram channel reports.
As noted, Ukrzaliznytsia took South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife Kim Keon Hee to Bucha and Irpin during their visit to Ukraine on July 15.
During the meeting with the Korean delegation, Liashchenko, members of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia Oleksandr Pertsovskyi and Vyacheslav Yeriomin showed Yoon Suk Yeol one of the Hyundai Rotem HRCS2 high-speed trains made in Korea before Euro 2012.
"Recently, Ukrzaliznytsia representatives joined the interstate negotiations between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea, and the expansion of cooperation in the railway sector is among the interstate priorities," the company noted.
As a result of the meeting in Kyiv, the President of the Republic of Korea promised to send a railway sector team to Ukraine to start working out the details of cooperation.
"Hyundai trains have been running in the territory of Ukraine for more than 11 years. And although there were problems with their operation at the beginning, the improvements were made and the trains successfully perform their function," Liashchenko said.
According to him, at the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrzaliznytsia evacuated tens of thousands of passengers by these trains. In addition, capacity has already been created to service these trains, so Ukrzaliznytsia is interested in expanding its fleet of high-speed trains and cooperating with the Korean manufacturer.
