NACP restores status of five Greek shipping companies in war sponsors list

Ukraine's National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP) has reinstated the status of five Greek carriers on the list of international war sponsors. These companies failed to meet the conditions agreed upon during negotiations to remove them from the list.

According to Ukrinform, NACP reported this.

Recently, the Ukrainian and Greek parties began negotiations. Companies were proposed to stop turning off transponders (devices for tracking ship navigation), reloading cargo from board to board, and publicly condemn Russian war of aggression.

The problem of turning off transponders and ship-to-ship transfers was resolved in the 11th EU sanctions package. However, these five Greek companies did not fulfill the requirement to publicly condemn Russian war of aggression within the specified timeframe. Therefore, NACP restored their status on the list of international war sponsors.

As NACP reminded, in the summer of 2022, NACP granted the status of war sponsors to five Greek companies (Dynacom Tankers Management (DTM), Delta Tankers LTD, Thenamaris Ships Management Inc., Minerva Marine, and TMC Tankers LTD).

The companies transported Russian oil and oil products, thereby replenishing the budget of the aggressor country and financing the Russian invasion. To learn more about how Greek shipowners are replenishing Russia's budget despite the sanctions, please follow the link.

NACP is the body responsible for the compliance system (compliance with the law by companies) in the private sector. During compliance procedures, counterparties are subject to integrity checks, including socially responsible business conduct in accordance with OECD standards.

The list of international sponsors of war on the War and Sanctions portal is a powerful reputational tool for achieving international supply chain integrity, for international businesses to leave Russia, and thus for reducing the financial and technological capacity of the terrorist country to kill Ukrainians. One of the platform's levers of pressure is cooperation with the World-Check database, which is used by banks and insurance companies to assess risks.

That is why for global companies, the consequences of being on the list are worse than continuing to do business with the aggressor country, the NACP emphasized.

For example, the Irish marine fuel supply company Peninsula Petroleum Limited was recently removed from the list of international sponsors of the war, as it had fulfilled all the necessary conditions by choosing the path of socially responsible business.

"NACP is open to cooperation with international business and is ready to consult on the steps necessary for de-listing," NACP assured.

As Ukrinform reported, the port operator Dubai Port World was added to the list of international sponsors of Russia's war because of its cooperation with Russia.
