Minister Strilets: Amount of damage to environment increased fivefold in a year

Over the year, the amount of damage caused to Ukraine’s environment increased fivefold.

"A little bit of arithmetic from our environmentalists, who keep records of damage to environment.

May 2022. Occupiers are expelled from Kyiv region. The first figures that we announced after the beginning of the full-scale invasion were UAH 13.2 billion.

August 2022 – the amount of losses is UAH 395 billion.

December 2022. The de-occupation of Kharkiv region, the liberation of Kherson city, and massive missile attacks are behind. Almost UAH 1.5 trillion in damages to environment," Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets emphasized, the Ministry posted on Facebook.

As for August 2023, he reported updated data of UAH 2 trillion.

"The calculation of damages in the case of the Kakhovka HPP is ongoing. The amount grows every day. These are far from the final figures. We will get the full picture after the de-occupation of the whole of Ukraine," Strilets emphasized.
