Ukraine exports nearly 1.5M tons of agri products via new corridors - Vice PM

Ukraine already sees the results of exports through a new alternative corridor, although deepwater Black Sea ports are still required to restore the country’s economy.

This was stated by Vice-Prime Minister, Minister for Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, who spoke at the 6th German-Ukrainian Economic Forum, Ukrinform reports.

“The No. 1 condition for the restoration of the economy is the ability to export through the deep-water ports in the Black Sea. From the moment Russia pulled from the grain agreement, we began to work with a new alternative corridor. We already see our first results – almost 1.5 million metric tons have been exported,” Kubrakov said.

According to the vice prime minister, from August 2022 to July 2023, 32.9 million tons of agricultural products were delivered to Africa, Asia, and Europe. To have greater volume, focus needs to be put on export logistics.

“The Danube performs a very important function. When no ports were in operation  in Odesa region, it took almost 50% of all exports and imports. This is our big alternative route. About 85% of the Dnipro gateways are in critical condition, so the need for investment in modernization is $165 million,” Kubrakov said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, since the launch of the temporary sea corridor, Ukraine has exported almost 700,000 tonnes of grain, predominantly bound for Europe and Africa.
