Ukraine, Japan’s task to engage Japanese companies in Ukraine’s recovery – PM Shmyhal

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoko Kamikawa.

The parties discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation, Ukrinform reports, referring to Shmyhal’s Telegram channel.

"On the agenda is the support for the Ukrainian President’s Peace Formula, implementation of reforms, cooperation in the field of infrastructure, digital and nuclear industries, and preparation for the Recovery Conference in Tokyo. We continue to strengthen trade relations and ties between Ukrainian and Japanese businesses," Shmyhal wrote.

He noted that Ukraine is interested in launching production facilities of Japan’s leading companies in Ukraine.

"We expect that we will see practical results at the Recovery Conference in Tokyo next month," added the Prime Minister.

In turn, Kamikawa confirmed that the Japanese side is preparing a number of important agreements for signing. The joint task of Ukraine and Japan is to involve as many private Japanese companies as possible in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

In addition, Shmyhal thanked Japan for its comprehensive support, as well as for the substantial humanitarian and financial assistance, including for Japan's decision to allocate $1 billion for humanitarian projects and recovery with the readiness to increase the amount to $4.5 billion through the mechanisms of international institutions.

Shmyhal also noted the efforts of the Japanese side in ensuring the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky in the G7 summit in Hiroshima.

As reported, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoko Kamikawa, arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit on Sunday, January 7.
