Japan will transfer seven high-voltage autotransformers and five gas turbines to Ukraine.

This was announced by the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy following a meeting between Minister Herman Halushchenko and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, Ukrinform reports.

"In close coordination with the Ministry of Energy, the Government of Japan will transfer seven high-voltage autotransformers and five gas turbines to Ukraine. In particular, the autotransformers were purchased with funds from the EBRD, and thanks to the efforts of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this large-sized energy equipment will be delivered to Ukraine. Ukraine will receive the gas turbines purchased by Japan through the mediation and significant assistance of UNDP and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)," the statement says.

It is stressed that the equipment provided by Japan will ensure uninterrupted power supply to more than 6 million Ukrainians, including the areas affected by targeted Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. The installation of autotransformers, the equipment most often destroyed by the enemy, strengthens the resilience of the power system, and gas turbines are in line with Ukraine's priorities in decentralizing the power system.

"We plan to announce in the near future the provision of two additional autotransformers through UNDP for the efficient and uninterrupted operation of the power grid," Kamikawa said at the meeting.

In turn, Halushchenko thanked the Japanese side for their support and willingness to continue to help Ukraine. He also noted Japan's participation in the work of groups on the implementation of Ukraine’s Peace Formula, in particular its first point - nuclear and radiation safety.

It is noted that the Government of Japan and UNDP have already provided 1,200 generators and 1,000 power units to state institutions and emergency services of Ukraine.

As reported, in early October 2023, the United Nations Development Program and Japan purchased and transferred two high-voltage autotransformers for the needs of NPC Ukrenergo.
