Government borrowings to state budget amount to UAH 612B since year-start

Government borrowings to the state budget’s general fund amounted to UAH 612 billion in January-May 2024.

This is said in a report published on the Finance Ministry’s website, according to Ukrinform.

It is noted that from the placement of government bonds, UAH 189.5 billion was raised, including UAH 56.7 billion in foreign currency (USD 749.5 million and EUR 665.7 million), to finance the state budget.

In addition, UAH 129.7 billion was attracted from the issuance of military government bonds. External sources provided UAH 422.5 billion (or $10.8 billion).

According to the Ministry of Finance, public debt repayments in January-May 2024 amounted to UAH 201.7 billion (91.5% of the plan), while service payments amounted to UAH 101.7 billion (91.6% of the plan). The funds raised from the placement of domestic government bonds in January-May 2024 allowed the government to cover the need for funds required to make payments on the redemption of domestic government bonds.

As reported, according to the Ministry of Finance, in 2024, Ukraine's monthly need for external financing will reach about $3 billion.
