Ukrainian, Japanese companies sign several cooperation memoranda
Ukraine and Japan will deepen cooperation in the field of infrastructure recovery, green recovery, energy, and agriculture.
This was reported by the Ministry of Economy, Ukrinform saw.
The projects will be eligible for technical assistance that Japan will provide to Ukraine through the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in the amount of EUR 188 million. Thanks to UNIDO, at the first stage, nearly 30-40 specific projects will involve Japanese technology transfer to Ukrainian companies. Grants in the amount of up to $10 million will be allocated to this end. Last week, the Ukrainian Government and UNIDO announced a call for pitches.
"In February of this year, 56 agreements were signed at the conference in Tokyo. We have specific shifts for each of them. Today, we are concluding more than two dozen memoranda of cooperation. All of them should be translated into specific projects on the ground – and we, as the government, are ready to provide all the support required for their implementation. I especially thank you for the grant regarding a hundred prostheses due to the licensing of their production in Ukraine," said Yuliia Svyridenko, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of Ukraine.
She also noted the initiative on the possible supply of tractors for medium and small-sized farms, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on the use of satellite imagery for soil analysis and sowing planning.
"I’d also like to note the importance of the MOUs regarding the financing and construction of affordable housing and the possible strengthening of our mortgage program." After all, affordable housing can be one of the incentives for the return of Ukrainians home from abroad," said Svyridenko.
The agreements signed lay down cooperation with Japanese businesses toward restoring Ukraine using energy-efficient and eco-friendly technology. The Japanese side plans to introduce their latest tech in Ukraine, run training sessions, and develop the potential of Ukrainian specialists, analyze and exchange data with Ukrainian businesses. One such example is an agreement between Japanese companies and Ukrainian manufacturers of unmanned systems and robotics, such as Ailand Systems Ltd and DRONE.UA, for the application of certain tech in the field of humanitarian demining.
As reported, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Ukraine with more than 100 power generators with a total capacity of more than 130 MW.
