Zelensky: We do not want to extend gas contract with Russia so that it does not make money here
The Ukrainian side does not want to extend the gas contract with the Russian Federation because it does not want it to make money here.
This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Bloomberg, Ukrinform reports.
"We are now considering alternative steps on how we can use the pipeline with another gas supplier, another country. Negotiations are ongoing. We do not want to extend the gas contract with the Russian Federation. We don't want them to make money here," he said.
Zelensky added that an agreement to replace Russian gas with Azerbaijani gas is "one of the proposals" currently being discussed.
"Government officials are now dealing with this issue," the head of state said.
As Ukrinform reported, Energy Minister Pyarviz Shahbazov said that Azerbaijan increased gas exports by 5.3% in 2023 compared to 2022 - up to 23.8 billion cubic meters.
