Odesa region one of leaders among cherry suppliers this year

This year, 10 thousand tons of sweet cherries were harvested in the Odesa region - the region was among the main suppliers in Ukraine.

This was reported to Ukrinform by the Department of Agricultural Policy and Food of the Odesa Regional State Administration.

According to the department, cherry orchards in the Odesa region cover 1 thousand hectares. The total area of fruit crops in 2024 is 6.4 thousand hectares.

"This year's Ukrainian sweet cherry season started three weeks earlier and with prices 30% lower compared to the same period in 2023. As of July 1, sweet cherries were harvested on an area of 0.8 thousand hectares in the Odesa region.

The gross harvest as of the reporting date amounted to 10 thousand tons. This year, the Odesa region was among the main regions supplying sweet cherries in Ukraine," the department said.

Last year, the sweet cherry harvest was even bigger, with a gross harvest of 11.4 thousand tons and a yield of 133.7 c/ha.

According to the RMA, local sweet cherries appeared on the Odesa wholesale market "Pochatok" at the end of May, with wholesale prices reaching 120 UAH/kg and retail prices at 150-180 UAH/kg. As of the beginning of July, sweet cherries were offered at the market at a price of 80-70 UAH/kg wholesale and 100 UAH/kg retail.

As reported by Ukrinform, in 2024, in the Odesa region, compared to last year, the acreage of watermelons increased by 108.7%, and melons - by 111.1%.
