Twenty-one state and five private phytosanitary laboratories currently operate in Ukraine to inspect agricultural enterprises.

Serhii Tkachuk, the head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“There are 21 state and 5 private phytosanitary laboratories in Ukraine. We estimate that about 20% of cargo is inspected by private companies,” Tkachuk stated.

He noted that prior to the full-scale invasion, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection held a monopoly on the inspection of the phytosanitary condition of agricultural enterprises. However, this mechanism has since been liberalized, leading to the authorization of private phytosanitary laboratories.
