Interior minister Avakov: Elections held without incidents

The situation on the day of presidential elections in Ukraine on March 31 was calm. According to available information, no election campaign headquarters prepare for unrest.

"The situation during the expression of will [of Ukrainian citizens] was calm. We managed to provide a sufficiently high level of security. Now it is important to conduct a competent vote count and prevent clashes and unrest," Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said in an interview with the LB.ua.

When asked whether there are some assumptions or specific information about possible unrest or clashes, Avakov said that he did not observe any of the campaign headquarters to prepare for some sort of unrest.

“No, no unrest is expected throughout the country. I don’t see any headquarters preparing for this,” the minister added.

He stressed that he did not see that someone had a resource to destabilize the situation.

According to Avakov, the mechanism of preparation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the second round of the presidential elections, in general, would not differ from the preparation for the first one.
