Two people injured in clashes outside parliament
Two people were injured in clashes between police and protesters outside the building of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, October 17, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry has reported on Twitter.
"The protesters broke several sections of a fence and metal detectors. Clashes started. One police officer was injured," the report says.
Eyewitnesses also report that an elderly man sustained a head injury in the scuffles.
Interior Ministry spokesman Artem Shevchenko, while commenting on the situation on the 112 Ukraine television channel, said that all actions by protesters would be qualified and that the perpetrators would be held accountable. According to him, at the moment he has no information about the detention of any of the participants in the rally.
Clashes between protesters and law enforcement officers outside the building of the Ukrainian parliament started when a protester tried to break a door frame metal detector on Hrushevskoho Street.
