About 20 households flooded due to ice jam on Desna in Kyiv region

About 20 households have been flooded in the Kyiv region due to an ice jam that had occurred on the Desna.

The relevant statement was made by Kyiv Regional Military Administration on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

On January 20, 2023, the Main Department of the Ukrainian State Emergency Service in the Kyiv region received a report on the ice jam that had formed on the Desna near the Brovary district’s village of Zazymia.

“The ice jam caused the rising of water level near such settlements as Zazymia, Pukhivka and Rozhny. About 20 households were flooded in the gardening cooperatives situated nearby,” the report states.

A headquarters was set up to remove the ice jam. The water area of the Desna is being monitored.

On the night of January 21, 2023, bomb technicians carried out a series of detonations within the ice jam near such settlements as Pohreby and Zazymia. Such actions are intended to lower the water level and prevent flooding on shore.

According to Kyiv Regional Military Administration, blasting works may continue.
