Five Ukrainians may be trapped under rubble in Turkey - MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has received information that five Ukrainians may be trapped under the rubble following earthquakes in Turkey.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister spokesperson Oleg Nikolenko said this in a Facebook post, Ukrinform reports.

According to him, Ukrainian consuls are on their way to quake-stricken areas in southern Turkey to help Ukrainians. The diplomats will provide them with warm clothes, essential items, medicines. On the spot, they will coordinate the search for missing citizens, the provision of medical aid to the victims and the organization of evacuation.

“We have information that five Ukrainians may be trapped under the rubble. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy are actively cooperating with the Turkish authorities for their rescue. One citizen has been hospitalized. There are no threats to her life," Nikolenko wrote.

According to him, the diplomats have already found 103 Ukrainians. The other 22 citizens have not made contact yet. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to establish their whereabouts, and is in contact with their relatives.

As reported, two earthquakes of 7.7 and 7.6 magnitudes hit Turkey’s province of Kahramanmaras on February 6.

According to the latest data, the death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey has reached 12,873, while 62,937 people have been injured.
