Six dead, ten injured after Kakhovka HPP blast - State Emergency Service

Following the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP by Russian forces, six people have died and 10 more have been injured, including two police officers and three employees of the State Emergency Service.

Viktor Vitovetskyi, Director of the Department for the Civil Protection Measures at the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, said this during the United News telethon, Ukrinform reports.

"Unfortunately, there are 10 injured, including three National Police officers and two emergency service employees, and six dead as a result of this disaster," he said.

Vitovetskyi added that 760 workers and more than 170 pieces of equipment of the State Emergency Service are involved in the operations to eliminate the consequences of the Russian terrorist attack.

According to him, 46 settlements and more than 3,800 households are currently flooded.

At the same time, he said that there is a tendency for the water level to drop in Kherson region.

“From the moment of the peak flooding - the morning of 8 (June - ed.), now there is a decrease by 1.5 m. We see a downward trend, almost 60 cm per day," added Vitovetskyi.

Earlier, Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko reported on Facebook about five dead following the Kakhovka HPP blast. According to him, 35 people are considered missing, including seven children.

"2,718 people have been evacuated, including 190 children. Five people have died. 35 people are considered missing, including 7 children," Klymenko wrote.

As Ukrinform reported, in the early hours of June 6, the Russian forces blew up the dam of the Kakhovka HPP, causing the flooding of areas in Kherson and Mykolaiv regions and the critical shallowing of the Kakhovka Reservoir. Evacuation of people from the areas affected by flooding is ongoing.
