President Poroshenko calls on amending Constitution regarding self-determination of Crimean Tatars as part of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has ordered the Constitutional commission to create a working group to draft amendments and addenda to the Constitution regarding the self-determination of Crimean Tatars in the composition of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president said this in a speech in Ukraine’s National Opera House during the evening-requiem in memory of victims of genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.

“We should launch the process of introducing amendments and addenda to Chapter 10 of Ukraine’s Constitution on the Autonomous Republic of Crimea that will fully come out of the inherent right of Crimean Tatars to self-determination as a part of the sovereign and independent Ukrainian state. And I will call on the Constitutional commission of Ukraine to create a working group consisting of commission’s members and representatives of the Mejlis, experts on drafting amendments and addenda to the mentioned chapter in the near future,” the president said.
