Poroshenko calls on Rada to vote for constitutional amendments on abolition of parliamentary immunity
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has called on the members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to vote for the constitutional amendments on abolition of the parliamentary immunity.
The President said this during the solemn events on the occasion of the Constitution Day, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"High profile cases, decisive steps to tackle corruption, which are being taken now by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, remind all of us of such an anachronism as parliamentary immunity. The corresponding draft constitutional amendments have already been elaborated. I demand the members of the parliaments to demonstrate their political will and become equal in rights with the citizens of Ukraine," the President said.
Poroshenko expressed hope that the Ukrainian lawmakers will make the appropriate decisions in the near future.
On Wednesday, June 28, Ukraine marks the 21st anniversary of the adoption of its Constitution.
