Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief: Lethal weapons supplies depend on political decision of U.S. leadership

The procedural matters of supplies of lethal weapons to Ukraine by the United States have been tackled, and now everything depends on the political decision of the U.S. leadership.

Chief of the General Staff, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Army General Viktor Muzhenko said this in an exclusive interview with Ukrinform.

"We have such prospects [regarding the supplies of lethal weapons to Ukraine]. All the lists have been agreed upon, and the procedural matters have been discussed. Now we await a political decision [of the White House]," the Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief said.

At the same time, he added that the US military leadership positively assesses the current state of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "The American side also positively assesses the processes taking place in Ukraine in 2014-2017, particularly, with respect to strengthening the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Muzhenko said.

In addition, he said, the issue is currently considered regarding the possible expansion of bilateral cooperation with the US in field of strategic reform.

"The reform concerns the changes in the General Staff, the departments of the Armed Forces and the Defense Ministry of Ukraine in order to improve communication and obtain appropriate opportunities not only at the operational, but already at the strategic level," the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
