U.S. Ambassador Yovanovitch outlines two directions of supporting reforms in Ukraine
The United States aims to help Ukraine build an effective economy and democracy, defend itself against external aggression and build the country which Ukrainians dreamt of during the Revolution of Dignity.
U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch said this at the solemn oath taking ceremony of new volunteers of the US Peace Corps in Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"American support for reforms in Ukraine is comprehensive and works in two synergetic directions: support for the reform process in Ukraine and resistance to the Russian aggression and active leadership in the peace process," Yovanovitch said.
According to the Ambassador, the United States tries to help Ukraine build an effective economy and democracy corresponding to Ukrainian aspirations and European standards.
"Our military cooperation and security support are also aimed at strengthening Ukraine's capability to protect itself from the external Russian aggression," Ms. Yovanovitch emphasized.
She noted that American support helps Ukraine become the country which Ukrainians dreamt of during the Revolution of Dignity.
"Both directions help to build the country the Ukrainians strived to see in 2014: the country with a stable democracy based on the Western values that defies external pressure and is a more capable partner of the United States," the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine said.
