Ukrainian foreign minister can meet with his Hungarian colleague

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said that there is an agreement on a meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto.

He stated this in Uzhgorod on December 1, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We have a preliminary agreement on a meeting with colleague Szijjarto. It will take place a few days before or a few days after the Venice Commission's opinion [on the language article of the law on education]," Klimkin said.

However, responding to journalists' questions, he said that the so-called Hungarian issue was artificially politicized and that the road to its solution lied in an open dialogue with the community. "The introduction of the law on education is our, Ukrainian affair, we care about the Hungarian community in Ukraine, as we have to give the Ukrainian Hungarians a chance for the future, including through the possession of the state language," Klimkin said.

As Ukrinform reported, Klimkin met with representatives of the Hungarian community in places of compact residence of ethnic Hungarians in the town of Berehove during his working visit to Zakarpattia region. He also spoke with students of two colleges, teachers and representatives of the Hungarian community, discussed the education law with representatives of the Hungarian minorities and inspected the state border with Hungary.
