EU comments on law on Donbas reintegration

The European Union believes that the law on reintegration of Donbas is intended to resolve the internal civilian and military order in Ukraine and emphasizes unchanging support of the Minsk and Normandy processes, an EU spokesperson has told an Ukrinform correspondent in Brussels.

"This law relates to the internal organization of Ukraine's civilian and military structures in the context of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and with a view to the future reintegration of areas not currently under the control of the Ukrainian government," the EU spokesperson said.

She said that "the EU supports the full implementation of the Minsk agreements as the basis for a peaceful and sustainable resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine."

"We expect the ongoing diplomatic efforts on the resolution of the conflict, notably in the Normandy Four format and the Trilateral Contact Group, to continue on the basis of the implementation of all relevant commitments," the EU spokesperson said.

As Ukrinform reported, on January 18, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the peculiarities of the state policy on securing Ukraine's state sovereignty over temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. A total of 280 MPs voted for the law.
