Ukrainian speaker, US senator discuss resolution on Holodomor

During a visit to the U.S., Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy has met with U.S. Senator Robert Portman.

The speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament informed this on his Facebook page.

"In Washington D.C., I’ve met with Senator Robert Portman, a great friend of Ukraine, the author of many resolutions in support of Ukraine. During the conversation, I expressed hope that the process of adopting a resolution on recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people in Congress will be speeded up and the resolution will be adopted this year. At the same time, the other day the State of Ohio represented by Senator Portman recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. As of today, 12 U.S. states recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people," Parubiy said.

At the same time, he stressed that Ukraine needed the solidarity of the whole world in the recognition and condemnation of the misanthropic ideology of the Soviet Union and its totalitarian system, so that such evil would not happen again.

As Ukrinform reported, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy was on a working visit to the USA on June 25-29.
