Poroshenko: Ukraine needs help of allies to deter Russia in the Black Sea

Ukraine needs stepped-up naval presence of Germany and the allies in the Black Sea as a deterrent for Russia.

 “We need stepped-up naval presence of Germany and the allies in the Black Sea as a deterrent for Russia,” President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said in an interview with the German Funke Media Group, the official website of the Head of State reports.

As the President stressed, Russia's aggressive actions are unacceptable, therefore the international community and the united Europe should increase pressure on Russia.

“We need a strong, unified, unequivocal response to Russia's aggressive behavior. We must stop the Nord Stream 2. We must think about new sanctions now,” Poroshenko stressed.

He also added that the time had come for a reaction against Russia as it happened after the incident in British Salisbury where former Russian spy Sergey Skripal and his daughter had been poisoned by Novichok nerve agent.

 “I believe that a meeting of the European Council in Brussels in December will be a timely opportunity to consider a situation based on the principle of solidarity and unity with Ukraine,” the President emphasized.

As reported, on November 25, Russian border ships committed the acts of aggression against three Ukrainian ships heading from the port of Odesa to the port of Mariupol. The Russian special forces fired and seized three Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait and 24 sailors aboard.

On November 26, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law approving the decree of the President of Ukraine on the imposition of the martial law for 30 days in 10 regions of Ukraine in connection with the aggression of Russia.
