St. Sophia's Cathedral square guarded by almost 4,000 police officers
About 4,000 law enforcement officers maintain public order at the square near Kyiv's Saint Sophia Cathedral, the interior minister's adviser, Zorian Shkiriak, has stated.
"The situation at the square is calm and is under the complete control of law enforcement agencies. About 4,000 officers of the National Police and the National Guard guarantee the citizens' safety. All necessary measures are taken to protect the rights and freedoms of civilians. We must do everything in order to avoid any provocations and emergency situations, because, unfortunately, we live in a time of constant terrorist threat," Shkiriak said on the air of Priamyi TV Channel.
He added that the law enforcement officers would act "in accordance with the circumstances that exist or may occur."
Today, December 15, a unification council of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church is held at St. Sophia's Cathedral.
