Zelensky says Servant of the People party goes into politics

Ukrainian comic and showman Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the Servant of the People Party goes into politics.

Zelensky said this in a comment to the NikVesti online news site.

When asked whether he goes into politics, he said: "The Servant of the People Party goes. Volodymyr Zelensky is part of the Servant of the People Party."

Zelensky said he was not yet ready to call other party members and added that they are now "engaged in legal and financial matters, are creative people and have grown up with him."

When a journalist compared Zelensky with singer Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, who had not yet publicly declared his plans to go into politics, Zelensky said: "I did not say that I go or I do not go. First, we are far from similar to Vakarchuk. [...] We have the Servant of the People Party, and it goes into politics."

The Servant of the People Party was registered in Ukraine in December last year. Its head is Ivan Bakanov, a lawyer for Studio Kvartal-95.

Elections to the Verkhovna Rada are scheduled for October 27, 2019.
