Polish FM Czaputowicz: Nord Stream 2 must not be built

Poland’s stance on the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline remains unwavering: this project must not be implemented.

"Poland’s stance on the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline coincides with the common stance of the European Commission and remains unwavering. The gas directive should apply to all the gas pipelines. This project must not be implemented," Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said during a meeting with Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze in Davos, the Government Portal reports.

According to him, if the Russian gas transit through the territory of Ukraine is stopped, Ukraine will lose protection against the advancement of Russian aggression.

"Poland views the Nord Stream 2 as a significant threat to the peace and security on the European continent from the point of view of deepening European countries’ dependence on Russian energy and the prospects for an escalation of Russian aggression against Ukraine. When the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine is stopped, Ukraine will lose both profits and a certain protection from the advancement of the Russian aggression," Czaputowicz noted.

In turn, Klympush-Tsintsadze expressed gratitude for the joint efforts and a clear stance of Poland against the construction of Nord Stream 2.
