Poland calls on Russia to free Ukrainian sailors

Warsaw urges Moscow to release Ukrainian sailors imprisoned in Russia, return Ukrainian vessels and guarantee freedom of navigation in the Kerch Strait.

Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz stated this while delivering a report in the Polish Sejm regarding the foreign policy of the Republic of Poland for 2019, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"A possible dialogue with Russia within the framework of Euro-Atlantic and European structures should depend on demands of international community. In particular, we demand the release of Ukrainian sailors who are imprisoned in Russia, the return of Ukrainian vessels, the restoration of full freedom of navigation between the Sea of Azov and the corresponding part of the Black Sea," he stressed.

He noted that the aggravation of the situation in the Kerch Strait had been accompanied by Russia’s information and propaganda war.

According to him, Poland constantly supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as Kyiv’s jurisdiction over the country’s territory within its internationally recognized borders.
