Ukraine not recognizes fake ‘elections’ in Abkhazia – Foreign Ministry
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the holding of the so-called presidential elections in the occupied territory of Abkhazia, the territory of Georgia which is under the control of the Russian Federation.
"Ukraine does not recognize the fake "elections" and considers them another provocative attempt by the Russian Federation to legitimize the pro-Russian regime of the occupied Abkhazia, Georgia," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Ukraine expressed its continued support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders and did not recognize the so-called independence of the occupied Abkhazia (Georgia) and the Tskhinvali region of South Ossetia (Georgia).
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine called on the Russian Federation to respect and strictly adhere to the rules and principles of international law by revoking the decision to recognize the so-called independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
As reported, the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia held the presidential elections on August 25.
