Canada supports Ukraine's sovereignty - new foreign minister

Canada strongly supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, new Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne has said.

"As leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany meet in Paris for the Normandy summit, Canada reaffirms its unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Champagne wrote on his Twitter account.

He stressed that Canada "will always stand with the people of Ukraine in their quest for peace, stability and prosperity."

Champagne replaced Chrystia Freeland as Canada's foreign minister last month. Freeland now holds the post of deputy prime minister.
