Parliament approves law on state regulation in sphere of nuclear energy use

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted the Law "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on the Safety of Nuclear Energy Use" (No.2372).

A total of 288 MPs voted in favor of the document, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The document amends the laws "On basic principles of state supervision (control) in the sphere of economic activity" and "On licensing of types of economic activities" regarding the non-extension of their effect to the supervision of nuclear safety and licensing of activities in the field of nuclear energy.

"Implementation of the act will ensure the implementation of state regulation in the sphere of nuclear energy, taking into account international requirements for such activities to ensure its safety, preserve Ukraine's image in the world as a country that fulfills its international obligations and countries capable of safe use of nuclear energy,” reads an explanatory note to the law.

It notes that the procedure for state supervision and licensing in the sphere of nuclear energy, defined in the laws "On the nuclear energy use and radiation safety" and "On licensing activity in the field of nuclear energy use" will comply with international obligations undertaken by Ukraine.
