Ukraine, Poland should improve quality of border crossing – Zelensky
Ukraine and Poland need to develop the infrastructure of their common border and improve the quality of its crossing for both individual citizens and carriers, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
He said this at the Ukrainian-Polish Economic Forum in Odesa on Tuesday, October 13, the presidential press service reported.
"We must do everything possible to ensure that the border line does not divide our friendly countries, but unites our states. It is necessary to develop the infrastructure of the common border, increase its capacity and effectively combat smuggling together," he said.
Zelensky said that both Ukrainians and Poles should have comfortable conditions for mutual travel, in particular, the railway connection should connect more and more Ukrainian and Polish cities.
At the same time, he recalled that eight automobile checkpoints are operating on the Ukrainian-Polish border, but their number is not sufficient.
"We are working closely with our partners to increase both the number of new checkpoints and the capacity of existing checkpoints," Zelensky said.
According to him, work is also underway to improve the condition of access roads to checkpoints on the Ukrainian territory.
"It's our homework. The implementation of the agreement between our governments on a loan of 100 million euros on the terms of related assistance opens up new opportunities here," Zelensky said.
