Dzheppar: Purpose of Crimean summit is to increase international pressure on Russia

The main purpose of the Crimean summit, which Ukraine plans to hold within the framework of the Crimean Platform initiative at the level of heads of state and government in Kyiv next year, is to increase international pressure on Russia.

“Countries, which have decided to support Ukraine, will join the Crimean Platform, visit Kyiv and support the declaration [of the summit] that will actually focus on such basic things as non-recognition policy, sanctions policy, diplomatic and political framework of our struggle for [de-occupation of] Crimea. So we are talking about international pressure: economic, legal, political," First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar said during a live broadcast organized by the Atlantic Council on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

The Ukrainian diplomat stressed that the Crimean Summit was expected to be held at the level of heads of state and government.

"We are currently planning the date and form of the summit since the coronavirus creates additional obstacles," Dzheppar said.

At the end of September, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced plans to hold the Crimean summit in Kyiv.
