National Congress of Paraguay adopts declaration condemning Russia's occupation of Crimea
The National Congress of Paraguay has adopted a declaration condemning Russia's occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine's Embassy in Argentina has told Ukrinform.
"On December 2 this year, the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Paraguay at its jubilee centennial extraordinary session unanimously adopted Declaration No. 577 'On the non-recognition of the ongoing annexation by the Russian Federation of the sovereign territory of Ukraine, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, illegally called the 'Republic of Crimea'," the report reads.
The declaration was initiated in connection with Russia's ongoing temporary occupation of part of the territory of Ukraine, namely the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, which violates the national sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
In the text of the declaration, Paraguayan MPs, referring to a number of UN resolutions (the resolution of March 27, 2014 on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as UN General Assembly resolution 73/194 of December 17, 2018 and UN General Assembly resolution 74/17 of December 9, 2019 on the problem of militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine), as well as parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov), expressed their support for the independence and sovereignty of and respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
"The non-recognition of a pseudo-referendum held in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in February 2014 was mentioned separately," the report said.
Paraguayan deputies condemned Russian aggression against the sovereign territory of Ukraine, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and also expressed their support for Ukraine in finding international legal ways to end Russia's temporary occupation of Crimea.
