Reforming SBU is key step on Ukraine's path toward NATO – Kvien

Reforming the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in line with Euro-Atlantic principles and best practices is a key step on Ukraine's path toward NATO.

Chargé d'Affaires of the United States in Ukraine Kristina Kvien said this at a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Mariana Bezuhla, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Twitter account of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.

“Excellent meeting with MP Mariana Bezuhla today. Appreciate her leadership on the Rada's draft law on the SBU. Reforming the Service in accordance with Euro-Atlantic principles and best practices is a key step on Ukraine's path toward NATO,” reads the report.

As reported by Ukrinform, on January 28, the Verkhovna Rada adopted at first reading the draft law "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine ‘On the Security Service of Ukraine’ to improve the organizational and legal framework of the Security Service of Ukraine."
