Ukraine, Slovakia launching cross-border cooperation project

Ukraine and Slovakia are launching a project on cross-border cooperation to deepen cooperation between local governments and modernize governance in Ukrainian communities.

Ambassador of Ukraine to the Slovak Republic Yurii Mushka said this during an online conference dedicated to the project "Cross-Border Cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia - CBC4US,” an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The Cross-Border Cooperation Project between Ukraine and the Slovak Republic will be another step in our fruitful cooperation. It will deepen cooperation between local governments of Ukraine and Slovakia, provide experience in the process of reform and modernization so that to bring Ukraine closer to European standards," he said.

Mushka stressed that cooperation between the territorial communities of both countries, including border communities, is important.

Natalia Lazarenko, a representative of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, said that the cooperation project would include seminars, conferences, round table meetings, publication of materials or manuals and other events dedicated to the cooperation between Slovak and Ukrainian local governments.

According to the organizers of the conference, the project "Cross-Border Cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia - CBC4US" is funded under the Program of the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area. This project receives grants from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through EEA Grants and is co-financed from the state budget of the Slovak Republic. The project is implemented by the Association of Ukrainian Cities (AUC), the Association of Towns and Communities of Slovakia (ZMOS), the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS) and the Slovak-European Cultural Society (FEMAN).
