Ukraine invites Bahrain to join Crimean Platform summit
Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzheppar has held an online meeting with Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, according to the ministry's press service.
During the conversation, Dzheppar thanked her Bahraini counterpart for supporting the UN General Assembly resolution on the territorial integrity of Ukraine in 2014, briefed him in detail on the goals, objectives and priorities of the Crimean Platform, and again invited the Bahraini side to join its inaugural summit in Kyiv on August 23.
The deputy foreign minister also informed her interlocutor about threats to the security of the regions of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov as a result of Russia's militarization of the occupied Crimea and systemic human rights violations. She stressed the need to enhance synergy and coordination of international response to the ongoing occupation of the peninsula and the fundamental importance of returning the Crimean issue to the global agenda.
In turn, Sheikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa reaffirmed Bahrain's support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and emphasized his country's principled position on preventing Bahraini companies from carrying out any activities in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
In addition, they discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, in particular, the intensification of economic cooperation, the deepening of political dialogue, the development of a legal framework, as well as cooperation within international organizations.
The Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the efficiency of the international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, step up international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the de-occupation of Crimea.
The first Crimean Platform summit is scheduled for August 23, 2021.
