Zelensky: Crimean Platform can become important instrument of security in Black Sea, Sea of Azov
The return of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov to the area of international maritime law and maritime security should be the international community’s priority.
“The Crimean Platform can become an important tool for this”, President Volodymyr Zelensky told the media after the leaders of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova endorsed the Batumi Summit Declaration on July 19, Ukrinform reports.
“Today we have paid considerable attention to the development of security and defense cooperation in the Black Sea region. The return of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov to the area of international maritime law and the restoration of safe navigation must become the international community’s priority. The Ukrainian initiative of Crimean Platform can become an important tool for achieving this goal,” Zelensky said.
The President stressed that Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova continued to defend their sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity by opposing external aggression and hybrid attacks. According to him, the three countries know “firsthand” what annexation, occupation, and the line of contact are.
"We all know what war is. We must do everything possible to make these lines [of contact] disappear from the land of our three countries forever,” the President of Ukraine stressed.
As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky made a working visit to Georgia on Monday. During the visit, the leaders of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova established the Associated Trio format and signed the Batumi Summit Declaration. The document states that joining the EU is a goal that unites the three countries, and European integration has no alternative for these countries.
On May 17, the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova signed a memorandum on the establishment of the Associated Trio for the joint successful European integration of the three countries.
