Yermak elected chairman of presidium of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak has been elected chairman of the presidium of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the Head of State.
The voting took place during a joint meeting of the presidium of the Congress and the National Reform Council in Kyiv on July 29, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"The organizing committee of the constituent meetings of the Congress is proposing to elect Andriy Borysovych Yermak as chairman of the presidium of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine," Deputy Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko said before the vote.
According to the results of the voting, Yermak was unanimously elected chairman of the presidium of the Congress.
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine will be engaged in solving issues that cannot be settled by communities on their own, Yermak said.
According to him, the Congress should become a coordinating body that balances the needs of the state and each individual community.
Yermak recalled that the meetings of the presidium of the Congress will be held monthly.
He instructed the secretariat of the Congress and the leadership of both chambers "to work out topical issues of the life of local self-government."
