President of Lithuania to attend Crimea Platform, mark Ukraine’s Independence Day

President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda will make a visit to Ukraine on August 22-24 to take part in the inaugural summit of the Crimea Platform and the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.

"Lithuania supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We have not recognized and will not recognize the occupation of Crimea. I sincerely support President Zelensky's efforts to draw the attention of the international community to the illegal annexation of Crimea. Russia's aggressive expansionist policy cannot be tolerated and legalized," the press service of the President of Lithuania informs.

During his visit to Ukraine, Nausėda will also open the Lithuanian public garden in Kyiv and take part in the unveiling of the monument to Grand Hetman of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Konstanty Ostrogski in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

The Crimea Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to step up the efficiency of international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, increase international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the main goal: to de-occupy Crimea and restore Ukraine’s sovereignty over the peninsula.

The activity of the Crimea Platform will be officially launched at the inaugural summit in Kyiv on August 23, 2021.
