Crimea Platform summit is great diplomatic victory – political expert

The first summit of the Crimea Platform became the largest international event held in Ukraine and a great diplomatic victory.

Political expert Volodymyr Fesenko expressed such an opinion during the Ukraine 30 marathon on Dom TV channel, Ukrinform reports.

"In my opinion, the inaugural summit of the Crimea Platform is the largest international event that has taken place in Ukraine for 30 years. Experts and diplomats can mention two or three major international conferences held in Ukraine. The last one was the Chornobyl summit in 2010. There was also a big OSCE conference. But in terms of level, the scale of representation, and, most importantly, the significance of the topic, of course, the Crimea Platform [is the greatest international event ever held in Ukraine] because Crimea, as well as Donbas, is the main foreign policy topic for Ukraine. Therefore, in my opinion, this is a great success of Ukrainian diplomacy and President Zelensky, the largest, most significant event in our country," Fesenko said.

He noted that the summit was held despite strong opposition from Russia. "I know from diplomatic sources that the Russians tried to disrupt the beginning of the summit, then influenced the governments and leaders of various countries around the world, seeking to reduce the level of participation in this summit," said the political analyst.

According to him, it is very important that 46 countries and international organizations took part in the forum. Fesenko noted that more than ten heads of state and government had arrived in Kyiv, and all EU, NATO, and G7 members had been represented at the summit.

"It is a huge political start. It is a long-term project. It is an international platform on which Ukraine will fight for Crimea. It is very important not to let [others] forget about the problems of Crimea, the Russian occupation. Russia wished [others] forgot about that, but we will always remind. This is what causes such hysteria of the Kremlin," Fesenko stressed.

As reported, the inaugural summit of the Crimea Platform took place in Kyiv on August 23.
