Zelensky, Egypt’s al-Sisi talk cooperation in defense, space
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi had a phone call with Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
That’s according to the press office of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Ukrinform reports.
The president of Ukraine invited Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to pay a visit to Ukraine.
Zelensky also noted the importance of further cooperation with Egypt, which is Ukraine's main trading partner in Africa, and reaffirmed readiness to further develop bilateral relations and increase the supply of domestic products to Egypt’s market.
For his part, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed his country’s interest in expanding relations with Ukraine in all areas, including through creating a hub of Ukrainian companies and ensuring their participation in Egyptian industrial zones.
In order to intensify bilateral cooperation, the heads of state agreed that the Ukraine-Egypt Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation should meet in the near future, as well as the counties’ diplomacy chiefs.
The president of Egypt noted the positive development of interpersonal contacts between the two countries and said that Ukrainians make up the majority of foreign tourists in Egypt.
Zelensky thanked al-Sisi for the introduction of a Ukrainian-language hotline to provide advisory services to Ukrainian citizens staying in Egypt.
The parties exchanged views on measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic, being implemented in both countries.
Separately, the interlocutors discussed prospects and specific projects in the field of military-technical cooperation. The president of Ukraine also stressed the “untapped” potential for cooperation in the space industry.
